Instagram Situation

We are currently dealing with a situation from which I believe everyone can learn.  Someone posted an innocent picture of Woodlawn students that had an inappropriate caption on Instagram.  Although this was done outside of school, on an IP address that is unknown at the current time, the ripple effects of the post have come into school and are causing a substantial disruption to the school day.

Yesterday, Mr. Murphy and I were made aware of this posting and immediately contacted our District 96 Technology Director, Kevin Ryan, and our Resource Officer, Ms. Janet Freeman.  Both individuals have contacted Instagram to initiate an investigation.  At lunch today, Mr. Murphy and I spoke with all of the 7th graders and encouraged them not to comment further on the posting as we are also investigating the matter from within.

Within the context of digital is forever, please monitor the sites our students are visiting and continue to discuss with your children the importance of appropriate technology use.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
