The weather
finally broke this week and we enjoyed a couple of days in the 80 degree
range. It was fabulous but it
brought up the issue of dress code within the building. Please make sure that your student is
appropriately dressed for school.
Just as a reminder, no spaghetti straps or short shorts for the ladies,
while gentlemen cannot wear t-shirts without sleeves or ones that show their
bellies. Thank you for your
support, and hopefully I will not be talking to any of you directly about the
dress code.

School
Security
We have had
workers in the office over the last couple of weeks, preparing the office for
our new security system. District
96 Superintendent Julie Schmidt has communicated in her notes to the public
that tighter security measures were coming for all district schools. Beginning Monday on next week, our new
system will be in place, meaning that it will take you a few seconds longer to
enter the building. Cameras are in
place to view the main doors, meaning that parents will have to buzz in twice
before entering the main office. I
am excited about the new system, further guaranteeing the safety of all
students and staff.
Tougher
math standards
More rigorous Math
standards will be ready to launch in grades K-6 next year. Working in teams
across the district as well as in partnership with the Math department at
Stevenson, we've created new "pathways" and standards-aligned courses
based on the Common Core State
Standards, which are focused on developing students'
readiness for college and careers. Earlier this week, you received information from
Superintendent Schmidt on the connectivity and commitment of
Stevenson and all its feeder districts to the work that has been completed.
Should you have any questions on the new course names, the content, or the
Common Core Standards, please don't hesitate to give me a call!
Parking Lot
Please do not block
the handicapped parking spaces when you are picking up your student. Our guest speaker today, Mr. Lloyd
Bachrach used the term differently challenged, which is the term I will use in
the future.
Lloyd Bachrach
As we do each year
for our 8th graders, the PTO’s Cultural Arts Committee brought in
Mr. Lloyd Bachrach. Lloyd once again talked about overcoming obstacles and
being the best one could possibly be.
Our 8th graders were captivated by his motivational
message. Thanks again Lloyd!
Fiddler on the Roof
Jr.
I am so proud of our
students who put on our Spring Musical!
Great job by the cast and crew in putting on this fabulous show. Each year I am impressed and think that
this was the best show Woodlawn has seen.
Finally, I hope that everyone has a great weekend. This is a rare opportunity for me because I can cheer for the same teams as everyone else. Go Bulls & Blackhawks! Also, Happy Birthday to Rita.
